I think there’s a lot of reasons for the ‘will they or won’t they’ question.” Either way, Donna enjoys the perks of a corner office—without actually having one.“She’s not really feeling like she needs to make a power play for more status at the firm. I will say that any kind of play she’d make would be related to her emotional connection to the relationships in the firm,” Rafferty said.
, which makes its long-awaited debut in the UK this month, sees law firm Pearson Hardman shaken up by the arrival of former partner Daniel Hardman Uncannily smart and sassy secretary Donna (Sarah Rafferty) is one of the employees affected most by the shift, as her loyalty to boss Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) drives her to make a potentially devastating mistake. And secondly, we're on a network that mandates that - the USA network's mandate is, 'Characters welcome'. If at least part of that rapport seems realistic, that’s because it comes from real life, Rafferty says. Donna, played by Sarah Rafferty, works as an executive assistant for a top Manhattan law firm—not really a position of power. “She seems to wield an unbelievable amount of power at the firm. Then there’s the unbelievable tension between Donna and Harvey, played by Gabriel Macht, a partner at the firm. And despite—or maybe because of—that power imbalance, things get steamy. She and Macht have been friends for more than 20 years. So it begs the question for viewers: Will Donna and Harvey, well, you know? “I think she’s concerned about how a relationship will affect her performance at work and whether she would be able to marry those two things.“As the series has progressed they’ve taken the dynamic that Gabriel and I tend to have with each other and put that a little bit into Donna and Harvey’s life,” Rafferty said. If Rafferty knows, she’s playing her cards close to her chest. I also think it’s interesting because I think on some level she questions whether Harvey is a match for her or whether he’s ready for what she’s looking for.Digital Spy spoke to Rafferty to find out what's in store for Donna, whether a romance with Harvey is on the cards, and just what they do with that can opener. So the characters are very fully developed, and it's not just a 'story of the week' structure, these situations really deepen and affect the characters.
I think there's somebody for everybody to connect with, whether it's hating Louis or loving Rachel."What first appealed to you about the character of Donna?
"When I first read the pilot script, I was really struck by how in one single episode I could hear the voices of all these characters, you got a really strong hit of who they are.
And Donna, I connected right away to her sense of humour, and wit, and loyalty.
She has a long, long working relationship with Harvey, and she's incredibly confident, like he is, really secure with her position at the firm and in the world, and in a lot of ways I thought she was an aspirational character, so I was intrigued by her."What's coming up for Donna in the second season?
"Now that we've had the whole first season to meet these people, there's more time to dig into them in season two, and the power balance is really affected at the firm.
In terms of Donna, she's loyal potentially to a fault, so she finds herself in a tricky situation and as a result, her relationship with Harvey is really challenged.
